Meet a Few Members of the Outward Bound Professional Team

Colin Clarke

Program Manager and Lead Facilitator

Colin first joined the Outward Bound community as a participant on a winter expedition in the wilds of northern Maine. Since that time he has worked with Outward Bound Professional as a facilitator, program manager, and director of OBP’s operations in Boston. His consulting practice focuses on leadership development and building effective teams. He is also a certified executive coach assisting leaders in their growth and efforts to affect positive change. Colin has worked with Fortune 500 corporations, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions.

Colin’s clients with Outward Bound have included American Express, the U.S. Air force, Yale School of Management, Harvard JFK School of Government, and the World Bank. In addition, Colin is a past President of the New Hampshire Chapter of the American Society for Training & Development.

Colin holds an MBA with course work in organizational development from the University of Southern Maine. When not consulting, Colin enjoys the outdoors and teaching martial arts.

Elliott Cumming

Program Manager and Lead Facilitator

For more than twenty years Elliott has been working to help groups and individuals develop in a variety of settings. He began his career as an instructor for Outward Bound which took him around the world working for six different schools on three continents. From those early days through to a more recent period as an in-house facilitator for General Dynamics, he has retained an affinity for the experiential approach, and infuses his programs with adventure and interactive participation to whatever degree possible. He is equally at home with a group of executives at a ski lodge retreat as he is with a group of several hundred in a large conference setting.

Over the years Elliott has worked with and for a number of clients: Bath Iron Works for 6 years with a focus on leadership development for middle level managers leadership development; a Lead Trainer at the Kennedy Center for Leadership at Kieve; and he’s designed and managed team and leadership development programs for dozens of clients including JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank, and EO Boston. Today he lives in Sheepscot, Maine with his wife and two children.

Lynne Lindsey

Program Manager and Lead Facilitator

OBP has benefitted from Lynne Lindsey’s dynamic, creative and energetic leadership since 2000. She has worked as program manager, lead facilitator and ropes course specialist with a variety of clients including government agencies, NGO’s and corporations. With graduate and undergraduate degrees in Environmental Science and Education, Lynne brings a deep commitment to creating and delivering the highest quality learning experience for all participants to her work with OBP.

In the winter, Lynne’s passion for skiing leads her to spend as much time as possible on the snow. She has been a volunteer ski patroller for more than 10 years, helping coordinate and lead skill training for incoming candidates.

Luke O’Neill

Program Manager and Lead Facilitator

Luke’s association with Outward Bound, goes back to 1989 when a 7-day sea kayaking course in Maine was the start of what became a lifelong journey. Since then, he has taught sea kayaking, sailing, scuba, and backpacking courses in Maine, Florida, Washington, and Panama while also serving as a program manager and facilitator for Outward Bound Professional programs, the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, and the Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding.

Luke has served in leadership positions with several educational and youth-development programs, including, most recently, American Explorers, a youth leadership development program created under the auspices of the Arthur M. Blank Foundation.

OBP Clients that Luke has worked with include: JP Morgan Chase, GE Capital, IBM, Genentech, Blackstone Group, Tuck School of Business, among others.

Gary Tubin

Program Manager and Lead Facilitator

Gary is an Organizational Development consultant with a graduate certificate in that field from Georgetown University. Since 2000, Gary has focused on working with Outward Bound and a few other leading professional development organizations. He utilizes action learning and experiential methods to promote team development and leadership skills. Utilizing proven learning models and mental modes, Gary designs and administers unique developmental programs to global and small businesses, applying a philosophy of adventure and challenge, systems thinking, learning by doing and social and environmental responsibility and character building.  Gary gets especially energized when he has the opportunity to work for longer periods with clients.

Gary has worked with Fortune 500 senior and middle managers in organizations like the World Bank, CIA, JP Morgan, GE Capital, Under Armour, Merrill Lynch, TRowe Price, BB&T, McCormick, and many others. He is an ACA Whitewater-Kayak Instructor and has led adult and teen wilderness expeditions for over 20 years. Gary lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Dian. When not working he can be found fishing on streams far and near or bounding along mountain trails.

Cindy Makin Brown

Program Manager and Lead Facilitator

With over 30 years in the field of experiential learning, Cindy is currently the Program Director for Custom Programs with Hurricane Island Outward Bound School. She works with corporate groups and senior leaders in team building and leadership training around the globe. Serving a wide range of companies, her recent work has included Avery Dennison, Nestle Waters, GE Capital and more locally LL Bean and Maine Development Foundation. Cindy enjoys building the results of psychometric tools, such as Strengths Finder, MBTI and DiSC into the design of experiential programs. Her strength is in helping employees increase their performance by focusing on leadership behaviors, corporate culture and team interaction.

Cindy is also responsible for Outward Bound Professional operations, overseeing: staffing and staff advancement, curriculum development, technical operations, logistics and sales support. She holds certificates from Interaction Associates, National Training Labs and Wilson Learning. Cindy is also a US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Captain, a nationally certified official for alpine ski racing and an active clinician with the US Ski Association’s Sport Education team. A graduate of Middlebury College with an MS in economics from UNH, Cindy lives with her husband in Newry, Maine in the winter and Tuftonboro, NH in the summer.
